There are many types of rescues we are involved in throughout the year. Hurricane season brings a variety of animals to us through your efforts. One type of rescue was a bit different from the many others we did.
Below is a picture of some of the 100+ baby terrapins which were rescued and brought to us. ( Terrapins are a species of turtle native to the brackish coastal tidal marshes of the eastern and southern United States) These were only the size of a quarter and they had gotten caught in the seaweed near Pine Island in the wake of Hurricane Michael. After the storm passed and we had cared for the terrapins, they were released between Pine Island and Bayport.
