OUR MISSION STATEMENT
TO FACILITATE THE RESCUE, REHABILITATION AND HOPEFUL RELEASE OF SICK, INJURED AND/OR ORPHANED WILDLIFE FOUND IN THE NATURE COAST REGION OF FLORIDA
WHAT WE DO
NWWR started in 1985. Much of the work we do is educating the public. We can help determine, for example, when to get involved with an animal and when to leave nature to handle the situation. We don’t always know at first glance what is the best procedure to use when encountering a wild animal. That’s why sometimes just asking a few questions can make a difference in an animal's survival. And none of us want an animal to suffer.
We are available to help determine the best avenue for this situation and if necessary capture, transport and rehabilitate the animal until it is strong enough to return to the wild.
Barney, our precious barred owl...who has been with us for 18 years...basically his entire life....is no longer with us. A mother fox and her kits dug their way into the enclosure where Barney and his 8 surrogates were. Before they left they had killed 4 of the juveniles and also our sweet Barney.
Mary Opal, our director, had to hand raise Barney when he came to the center at the age of 3 days, after his nest tree was hit by lighting and he was the sole survivor. There were no other owls in the center at the time so Mary took on the role of "Mom". Barney was one of a kind and was a surrogate to other younger owls. We will miss him so much.
THE BENEFIT YARD SALE - THANK YOU!
Thank you to Carol's Interiors and Floors of Homossassa for hosting the Benefit Yard Sale for us!
We really appreciate all the work from our volunteers to make this happen and we want to thank all of our supporters who came to the sale and made it a big success!
Thank you for your support.
We hold a free and open to the public “General Meeting” on the 3rd Tues of each month, at 7 pm, at our sanctuary at 7360 S. Finale Pt. in Homosassa, Florida. Here we come together to replenish supplies, exchange animals, and discuss any concerns or brainstorm new ideas.
